Some reflections on this first semester of 2020

Hello everyone, in this post I will talk about some reflections on this first semester of 2020. As you know, this year is characterized by being marked by a COVID-19 pandemic that originated in the Chinese city of Wuhan at the end of 2019, and spread to the rest of China and other countries in the rest of the world during 2020 causing a strong socioeconomic impact. In this context, we have attended virtual classes at the university and it has been difficult to adapt to this situation since we suffer from the fear of infecting ourselves and others, in my case I am specifically concerned about infecting my grandparents because I live with them. This pandemic has caused millions of cases of infected people around the world and the death of thousands of people. There was also a collapse of the world stock market so we are in a very difficult situation. But not everything is negative, fortunately no one in my family has been infected and this time of confinement has allowed me to get to kno...

My favorite book

Hello everyone, in this post I will talk about my favorite book My favorite book is "Como agua para chocolate", it is a novel written by Laura Esquivel, she is my favorite writer. The story is about the life of Tita, her loves and her relationship with her family, all related to the importance of cooking and typical Mexican recipes of the time in which her life unfolds. It’s a “realismo mágico” novel and is mainly about the love between Tita and Pedro. The characters are very traditional because the story takes place in 1989 and, in addition to being a romantic story, it’s very tragic due to various events. The main argument of the book is that Tita and Pedro can’t marry because Tita, being the youngest of the sisters, must be in the care of her mother until the day of her death. In general, I like to “realismo mágico” books, however the last book I read was "Hygge. La Felicidad en las Pequeñas Cosas" written by Meik Wiking. It is a self-help book and I would recomm...

My favorite class this semester

Hello everyone, in this post I will talk about my favorite class this semester My favorite class this semester is "Aplicaciones en SIG I" with Professor Gino Sandoval. The course "Aplicaciones en SIG I" teaches about geographic information systems (GIS) and allows the student to understand, confront and solve basic spatial problems using GIS, through the recognition and appropriate application of GIS tools reviewed in class. In the classes we always make cartographies, first we identify and define spatial problems for their subsequent resolution using GIS, second we recognize and apply the GIS analysis tools to solve a spatial problem of basic complexity and third we represent the results in a cartographic way for their understanding by different hearings I like the class because I find it useful. Geographic information systems are important because they function as tools that integrate components that allow analyzing, organizing, manipulating, and modeling a large ...

My bucket list

Hello everyone, in this post I will talk about my bucket list. 1. Learn to cook Right now I am learning to cook because I find it creative and relaxing, it serves to save money, keep myself healthy and I like to eat delicious food. I wish to be good in the kitchen in the future. 2. Visit all the national parks of Chile In this country there are 41 national parks that form a beautiful tour of diverse landscapes. In parks, the protection of nature is harmoniously balanced with the economic development of their communities through tourism as a consequence of conservation. 3. Back to the Isla Grande de Chiloé Together with my family we went to the Isla Grande de Chiloé in 2016 and we had a very entertaining trip. On our visit we ate delicious food, we visited beautiful churches, we participated in festivities and we knew the legends of the island. It was a wonderful trip and I would like to have this experience again. I want to share these experiences with my younger sister and my boyfrien...

Roger Tomlinson

Hello everyone, In this post I’ll talk about Roger Tomlinson Roger Tomlinson was an English geographer who lived in Canada and I admire him because he created computerized geographic information systems or GIS. Tomlinson was a member of the Order of Canada, which is the highest honor a civilian can receive. In the 1960s he worked for the Government of Canada as director of regional planning systems with the department of forest and rural development, and at this time, he planned and led the development of the first computerized GIS in the world, in other words, the first computerized GIS was Canada's geographic information system. Geographic information systems are important because they function as tools that integrate components that allow analyzing, organizing, manipulating, and modeling a large amount of data linked to spatial references. GIS is used to develop cartography, to support environmental impact studies, to evaluate resources, and for other things that can be done eff...

A photograph that I like

Hello everyone, In this post I’ll talk about a photograph that I like This photograph shows a strange individual, it seems to have the face of an ant, but its eight legs indicate that it is a spider. It is a crab spider that mimics an ant. I read that there are many species of spiders that mimic the appearance and behavior of other species and infiltrate the colonies of their victims, so this spider was probably eating clueless ants. I really like photography because I find it funny to see the spider in disguise and on its face you can see an expression of surprise or disappointment, I think it knew they discovered his deception. The photograph was taken by Ripan Biswas in 2019, it is called The Face of Disappointment, I found it in the National Geographic's Best Photographs of Wild Nature exhibition of 2019 and in this exhibition it won in the category of Animal Portraits. Thanks for reading my post!

My favorite TV shows

Hello everyone, in this post I will talk about my favorite TV shows. I watch a lot of television shows, so I find it difficult to choose my favorites, but for this post I will. My two favorite television shows are "Jane the Virgin" and "The Good Place". "Jane the Virgin" tells the story of Jane Villanueva and is about Jane being pregnant after being artificially inseminated by mistake. While "The Good Place" centers on Eleanor Shellstrop who lived as a bad person and when she died was accidentally sent to the good place, this place is a utopia in which good people are rewarded. I like these TV shows because they have a great sense of humor. In addition, its characters are charismatic and heterogeneous, so they show the importance of good coexistence and empathy. Of these two series I recommend seeing "The Good Place" because it has short chapters and tells a great story. Also, I want to tell you that in the future I would like to see ¨M...
